New Hooked Rug – Day 53 ~ Helen’s Tapestry

I was enjoying  hooking the border so kept on going for a bit!!!  : )

More wool dying today too!

The last two days, I’ve used these three colours of Woolrich wool to overdye to make all the colours shown.   (This wool isn’t as “fluffy” as some, but it is great for the narrow cuts.)

Here are the two days worth of colours I’ve done…I dye in quarter yards as I don’t want my wool pieces to “match”, even if I am using a yard for a background, etc.  I want them a bit different!!!!  Besides, it’s fun seeing how the colours turn out!!!  LOL  : )

As you probably guess, I don’t keep track of my formulas very much either…I just experiment and put in “a little of this and a little of that” about half the time.    LOL

I usually don’t want to dye the same colour wool…and,  I don’t do large sections of hooking on all one colour!!!!  : )

Happy Hooking!  : )

I am a folk artist now living in Vancouver, Washington. We loved our Vermont "Old Crow Farm" but now I live in a little cottage with a bright yellow front door! I no longer have my business but still love designing and hooking rugs and experimenting with colour...! I do "mystery rugs" on my Blog and that is great fun!

  1. Thanks, Katie! I’m still havin’ fun!!! : )

    Hi Miss…

I have used a little of everything for this rug…..
as-is wools, textures, plaids and some of my hand-dyed wool along with hand-dyed wools from other wool colourists. I now have a good sized “stash” of wool so I can choose from my studio and not have to dye everything myself. : )
I ordered the “elephant gray” hand-dyed wool from Winterberry Cabin and I’ve ordered 6-8 value swatches from her also as I don’t dye those. (Used on flowers, etc.)

But I enjoy dying…I use a crockpot and also do some casserole dying in the oven!
    Happy Hooking!! Sunnie : )
