New Hooked Rug – Day 55 ~ Helen’s Tapestry

Filling in the colours of the border…so I’ll have only a small amount of Border to finish as I get to the top of the rug center!!!  I am still happy with my choice of designing a different border for this redesigned rug!  I think it sets off the center in the way I wanted it to!  : )

Still having fun!!!!!  LOL   : )

NEW POST ON HOMEPLACE RUG…on my other wordpress Blog!  (second on my Bloglist)  : )

Happy Hooking!

I am a folk artist now living in Vancouver, Washington. We loved our Vermont "Old Crow Farm" but now I live in a little cottage with a bright yellow front door! I no longer have my business but still love designing and hooking rugs and experimenting with colour...! I do "mystery rugs" on my Blog and that is great fun!

  1. Sunnie, when you first changed the border to your folk art one, everyone was saying how perfect it was. But not being that experienced a rug hooker, I couldn’t see what everyone else did. Now (lightbulb coming on here!!) I CAN SEE IT. I have no background in art and even the term “folk art” can totally escape me at times. But maybe I just needed to see your rug when you had enough of the border done around the finished center part of the rug.

Now that I ‘see’ it and get it, boy, don’t I feel like a total dunce! This is REALLY beautiful and it fits your rug so perfectly!

I guess there are times when it takes me a little longer to get to the final place ~~~ where everyone else is already waiting!

  2. Hi JoJo:
You know, all of us have different ideas about what is pleasing or what “goes” with what! : ) It isn’t wrong for you to prefer the animal border…or to not be sure about the border until a good portion of it is done! : )

I think the Helen’s Tapestry rug that Alice posted on her Blog has a lovely border with the animals…but I just was unable to redesign my border to use the wider cuts. For me, rather than try to do something that just isn’t working I prefer to try something else.!!! LOL

Folk art is the art “of the people”…art made by those with no formal training. Like me! : ) LOL As you know from my rug work…I do whimsical, colourful designs that aren’t very “formal”. when I redesigned this rug, I was approaching it as though I had come up with the original design! This is a border I might have used if I had designed the center. : )

As you said, sometimes it is easier to “see” a rug when the border is completed!!! LOL I just thought that, since I couldn’t design a fancy border with animals, I’d try to just showcase the rug center with my border!!!!!

Hugs to you, Sister of the Wool! : ) Sunnie : )
