  1. Oh, my gosh! It’s nearing the home stretch, Sunnie!! From an observer’s point of view, this is moving quickly ~ wonder if it feels that way to you!! It really has a beautiful look!!

  2. I totally agree with Alice. And thank you for your previous comments. There are days (or weeks/months) when I just don’t “get it.” And you’re so gracious by not making me feel like an idiot. I think I love you…LOL. I *know* I love your rugs.

  3. Hi Alice:

It’s funny…sometimes it feels like it is whizzing right along and sometimes it seems slow going! : )

However, the nice thing for me is that I do the borders and backgrounds as I go along!
I think I would croak if I needed to do this large border all at the end. It’s amazing how long it takes just to do a border section…and it is a simple border!!!!! LOL : )

I really am happy with it and am still enjoying working on it! Also, I’m having fun with the Homeplace Primitive rug on my other wordpress Blog! The animals and flowers, trees, etc. are such fun!!! : )

Happy Hookin’, “Wool Sister”!!! Sunnie : )

  4. Hi JoJo…your post popped up while I was writing to Alice!!!! : )

I may be wrong (of course, I’ve never been wrong before!!!!!!!) HA…but I really think that sometimes we don’t have a good sense of our own talent and/or ability to decide for ourselves what we like in a piece of art or “folk art” or craft, etc. : ) I think you have good comments and thoughts about the rugs you see…and you are encouraging and kind to others when you give those comments!!!! : )

I appreciate all posts, even those where the person says , “Why did you do that? I would have put on a simple border in green triangles?”…. or some such comment.
If that person was doing the rug, the green border might have been wonderful…maybe better than what I chose! I listen to any comments, think about them and maybe decide to use that “green triangles” border on another rug!!!! LOL

But I think, more than anything else, what makes rug hooking (or any other art or craft) fun and so delightful for me is that I don’t worry about pleasing anyone but myself with my work! : ) It frees me from constantly comparing myself with others who might be more experienced or better rug hookers! It takes all the stress and uncertainty out of my hooking life. (It really is the way I approach all of life.) It is a freedom that I rejoice in! : )

If others get pleasure out of the rugs I hook, that is an extra blessing as I’ve enjoyed myself so much in making them! If they love them and buy them at my show or at the gallery, that is great too!!! LOL

What I like to do is look at all the rugs that people do, study what they have done and how they have used colour or pattern in the rugs they hook. I don’t have to like the rugs! LOL : ) (I’m sure not everyone likes MY rugs either!!!!!!) : )

As I’ve said before, my work and way of hooking and colour-planning would horrify some rug hooking teachers! : ) They would consider me “undisciplined” and “sloppy”. This does not bother me…as others might consider my work “joyful” and “whimsical”!!! LOL

Just as we have painters who work in great detail in a formal manner and in beautifully realistic images, we also have artists who paint in great swaths of colour, using globs of paint in a freewheeling style! I can enjoy them all for one reason or another…but there are certainly many paintings that I don’t personally like!!!!! LOL : )

As you know, I haven’t been hooking for a long time, just since 2005, but I think I’m growing and getting more experience every day! And…it is all such fun!!! LOL

Hugs to you “Wool Sister”!!! Sunnie : )
