New Hooked Rug – Brown Fraktur Birds ~ Sunnie

I thought you might enjoy seeing another rug I am working on.  This rug, Brown Fraktur Birds ( (c) Sunnie Andress- 2008), was inspired by antique frakturs and samplers from the 1700’s and 1800’s.  I love the old motifs and enjoy creating my own designs with a similar feeling!  : )

I did the center of this rug a year or so ago and was “dithering” about the border.  I first thought about a plain border with corner circles as you can see from the backing…but then decided to make the border more delicate.

The center background has pale greens, grays, yellows…a lot of different pale colours.  I decided to do the border with scallops…almost like a doily or lace trimmed cloth.  I wanted to use only a couple of wools for the border scallops so there are only two mottled hand-dyed wools used there.  The green border background has about 4 wools used…2 plaids, 1 overdyed check, and a mottled hand-dyed green.

Another beautiful Autumn Day!

I’ll post Helen’s Tapestry a bit later!!  Happy Hooking!  Sunnie  ; )

I am a folk artist now living in Vancouver, Washington. We loved our Vermont "Old Crow Farm" but now I live in a little cottage with a bright yellow front door! I no longer have my business but still love designing and hooking rugs and experimenting with colour...! I do "mystery rugs" on my Blog and that is great fun!
