New Hooked Rug – Sunnie/Old Crow Farm~ Extra

I thought you might like to see my original design – “Be My Love – A Fraktur Valentine” ( c) Sunnie Andress-2007)that I am finishing up while working on the Homeplace Primitive!  (I actually designed and started this rug in 2007 and am just getting around to finishing it!!!)   (I’ve been busy!!!!  LOL)

This was such fun to do…as you know, old frakturs (Pennsylvania German illustrated birth and marriage certificates, etc.) and antique Samplers  have many versions of a couple standing together…and this is my whimsical creation!!!  It is kind of a scrapbag rug too, in that I tried to use a lot of my wool “worms” here and there in the basic design.  It is done in the folk art style and you can see that the motifs are not exactly alike on each side of the couple.  It is just a fun rug and I hope someday a couple who has a sense of humor  and loves one-of-a-kind folk art will want it to celebrate their engagement!!!!!  : )

You’ll note that, just for fun,  I made the ring large enough to fit around his lady love’s neck!!!  LOL  (And…the gentleman who is dressed so nicely is wearing Wellington gardening boots with his dapper outfit!! ) : )  It is these whimsical touches that bring chuckles to the viewers of these rugs…and, of course, that is my intent and my style.   : )

I haven’t really done any “serious” rugs…although the “Helen’s Tapestry” and the “Bradley Primitive” rugs might be considered less goofy projects than I usually do!!  LOL

Happy Hooking!!!  (And try something really really fun for your next hooking adventure!!!!)  : )  I’ll be deciding on my next daily rug project this month…so stay tuned!!!!

I am a folk artist now living in Vancouver, Washington. We loved our Vermont "Old Crow Farm" but now I live in a little cottage with a bright yellow front door! I no longer have my business but still love designing and hooking rugs and experimenting with colour...! I do "mystery rugs" on my Blog and that is great fun!

  1. This is a lovely rug and I am sure it will make someone really happy. Looking forward to seeing what you decide for your next project, it has been so much fun following your progress

  2. Happy New Year, Miss and Alice!!!! I find I’m just as wacky as ever, even in 2009~!!!!!! LOL Thank you for the kind words! : )

I wish you all the best in 2009 and lots of fun projects!!!!
    Hugs, Sunnie : )

  3. Sunnie,
As always, beautiful designs and colors. I am working on a large rug, more of an antique style with darker colors, but it is for a hallway runner, so being practical.

I can’t wait to see how you hook up the dogs in your other project.
