New Hooked Rug-MYSTERY 2-Day 8/Sunnie

Hooray!!!  I finally decided upon my border…but this is just the start because the border is a “Mystery” too!!!  So all is not what it seems!  LOL

For the new rug hookers out there, choosing a border design can really be fun, instead of a burden!!!  : )  Each rug center will tell you what it needs…a simple border like a frame, a more elaborate border complimenting the theme or a wild border continuing the rug story out to the edges. ..or something else!!!!  : )

If you go back to my work on the “Helen’s Tapestry” rug in older posts, you will see that my chosen border was rather simple but enhanced the center section.  But the real pattern, with the ferns and animals in the border was a great design in itself and carried the theme of the rug into the border.

I am kinda doing that here.  (!!!)    Although this border will enhance the center (I hope!!!)  LOL…I am doing something odd with the border design as well as with the center of the rug and having fun with it.  So you know that what you see here as the start will not be the same at the finish!!!  : )

Although you can’t really see it in this photo, I have put a line of dark antique green/brown/black between the center and the border just to have a little “separation”.    I went through my “Hooked Rugs Today” books and looked through many of my rug hooking books just seeing what others did with their borders so that I could get inspiration from them!  If you want to see “Borders” look at the work of Jule Marie Smith…her work is wonderful!!!

I am a folk artist now living in Vancouver, Washington. We loved our Vermont "Old Crow Farm" but now I live in a little cottage with a bright yellow front door! I no longer have my business but still love designing and hooking rugs and experimenting with colour...! I do "mystery rugs" on my Blog and that is great fun!
