Rug Hooking Creative Challenge Photos-Sunnie/Old Crow Farm

Here are the photos from our SMILE Creative Challenge!  All the ladies did a great job! : )  They were given the little black and white drawing (which some of them would never have chosen for themselves!!!) and given two basic “rules”.   One – that the elf design needed to be recognizable in their finished rug and Two – that the Smile banner wording needed to stay in the same place on the figure.

We also chose a Season to represent as we hooked our pieces and were to experiment, choose a different strip width, use a different colour, try some “Bling”, try a new technique, etc.  Not a “Swap”, Not a “Contest”, Not a “Competition”…just a piece for ourselves to spark our creativity!!!

NOTE:  Please remember that these are original rugs/mats by each individual artist and are not to be copied without permission from the rug designer/owner.  Thank you for honoring the creative spirit of these challenge members!  We appreciate it!  : )

Order of 15  photos…

Thank you for visiting our Rug Show!!!  I hope you enjoyed it!!!  HOOK ON!  Sunnie  ; )

I am a folk artist now living in Vancouver, Washington. We loved our Vermont "Old Crow Farm" but now I live in a little cottage with a bright yellow front door! I no longer have my business but still love designing and hooking rugs and experimenting with colour...! I do "mystery rugs" on my Blog and that is great fun!

  1. Oh, Sunnie ~ thanks for posting all of these cute rugs!! Wonder who drew the little elf?? I think I know! They are fun and very creative!!

  2. Thank you, Alice!!! This challenge was such fun! : ) The little elf was a doodle while I was on the phone listening to “elevator music!!!” …and I thought it would be a good creative exercise if anyone wanted to play!
Three of our members couldn’t do the exercise because of life and health things…but we did have 15 do a great job!!! LOL

Hugs to you, Wool Sister!! Sunnie ; )

  3. Such creativity! All the rugs are great! I enjoyed seeing them very much…..Will you be doing another challenge? How does one participate! Thanks so much! Cathy G

  4. Hi Cathy!! Yes, we will be doing another Creative Challenge…do you belong to the Forum, Rug Hooking Daily? It is a wonderful free forum with over 2200 members. : )
Simply join the Forum and then, when we do another challenge group, you just join the group!

These projects where you can experiment with different techniques and choose the size, shape, etc. of your rug/mat help us all grow… as we might not want to “experiment” (!!) on a larger rug we are working on!

I hope you will check out the Forum…it has a lot for rug hookers and the pictures are so inspiring!! Lots of pictures and discussions!!
