New Mystery Rug “E or R”-Aug 2016-Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs-Day 1

“In some distant places, forms change as the light dims.   And shadows pass like whispers before we are aware of what has just transpired.”

Here we go…!    🙂

When I start a rug like this, I first need to see if my background choices will work.   I’m starting on the right side, about 1/3 of the way down so that I can hook the transition from the “sky” part to the “shadow” part of the background.

I am using a blue plaid for the sky, hooking in a small part of green mottled hand-dyed wool for the transition and then the very dark black/blue/green for the shadow part.   Later on, when I reach the bottom of the rug, I may add a dark brown for more shadow/land…but that will be decided many days from now!!!!!   (this is a large rug 39 x 49 inches)

I will post pictures of the wools I am using when I have decided to continue with the chosen ones.    🙂

As you already know, the start of these rugs is funny because the first hooking gives you colours and nothing else!!!   But we do have to start somewhere!   Day 1 shows the blue plaid I am using.   (the second, lightened, photo shows a bit of the subtle colour in the blue plaid.)

So here we go with Progress on Day 1…Happy Hooking!   Sunnie   🙂

I am a folk artist now living in Vancouver, Washington. We loved our Vermont "Old Crow Farm" but now I live in a little cottage with a bright yellow front door! I no longer have my business but still love designing and hooking rugs and experimenting with colour...! I do "mystery rugs" on my Blog and that is great fun!
