I was able to get more hooking done over the weekend…Hooray!!! 🙂
Trying out an idea that pops into my head is often productive if I do it right away. I might forget if I wait and miss something fun and/or useful…! This black and white check (or rectangle!) idea has given me another experiment.
The border has straight lines and is more “ordered”. The center is more chaotic with curving lines! Even the unseen lettering is curving! So I will assess the rug design as I go along to see if the “order surrounding disorder” (!) experiment works for me. 🙂
This photo shows the black and white border…
However, if I decide after doing more of the rug that the black and white is just too much and takes away from the center design, I can do several things.
First, I can leave the black and take out the white, replacing it with the background plaid. This would give a very dark and subtle frame to the piece and be quietly different from the center.
Or…I could replace the white with another colour. I tried a few pieces of wool that would pick up the rusts in the sunflower and the “flower” under the blue bird…and I like that idea. Or, I could choose another colour that would be better after more of the rug is hooked.
I might not have even thought of the “black and white or black and colour” checks (rectangles!) at the end of hooking the rug… so I like to try odd ideas right when they happen!!!! …lol…
Here is Day 5 Progress with the white border parts covered with “rusts”! It might be a subtle border that just adds a bit of softer colour. We shall see.
And here is my Day 5 Progress on the rug right side. You can’t see much because of covering the lettering (!!!) but at least the top of the rug center is finished…! Happy Hooking! Sunnie 🙂
