New 2018 Mystery Rug-“…ATBTC”-Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs/folk art-Day 13

I keep saying that this rug is such fun…but it is because I am trying something new…that combination of a bit of “realism” within a folk art design.   I need to do this because I want one of the motifs to have a “real” element to it…because it enhances my design and, hopefully!!!, captures the viewer’s attention.

It isn’t easy to combine “realism” with fantasy, at least for me, because I don’t do anything “realistic”.   I never hook a real landscape with sky and clouds the way they really look.   I don’t hook animals that look “real”…mine are simply my interpretation of real things.   You know what they are, but they are not realistic…!

Now any of us Could hook a photo of a child sitting by a river (realistically) and then have a cartoon character rowing by in a boat, etc.   But I am talking about Combining the realistic and the folk art in the same character or motif….!   Anyway, it is all great fun!   🙂   I hope all will become clear when you see the finished piece!

I’m not sure if I will succeed…but I am enjoying trying!!!   …lol…

So here is Progress on Day 13…the first blue fish asked for a companion…so, of course, I had to hook another fish..!   I was tempted to hook a red one for Dr. Seuss…” One fish, two fish, Red fish, Blue fish”…but red wouldn’t go with my other colour choices.   (I am hoping the mouse will be happy with his fish and bug friends and won’t ask for another mouse!!!!)

Happy Hooking…and I’m glad you are coming with me on this silly adventure!   Sunnie   🙂

I am a folk artist now living in Vancouver, Washington. We loved our Vermont "Old Crow Farm" but now I live in a little cottage with a bright yellow front door! I no longer have my business but still love designing and hooking rugs and experimenting with colour...! I do "mystery rugs" on my Blog and that is great fun!

  1. Sunnie, I just realized how fortunate we are to be allowed to follow every step of the development of your beautiful Folk Art rugs. Who knows, it may end up in a book someday, I hope. There’s always the element of mystery and surprises, and always beautiful.

So are we having an Adam fish looking for an Eve fish companion?
    Hugs, Julia

    1. Hmmmm…those fish both have rather silly smiles so I am not quite sure what they are up to!!!!! …lol…

Because I do get questions about the rugs I do (and I don’t always have an answer!!!) I like to post some of what I am doing or trying…or doing wrong!!! 🙂 It might help someone.
Also, I know I have read something or seen something that sparks my interest in trying a new thing that I hadn’t thought of before!!!
Years ago, I read something about using a “quiet” plaid for a background and, over the years, using background plaids has given me so much pleasure that I might have missed…!!!
It would be fun to do a book…who knows what silliness I could get up to with doing that…!!!
Hope all is going well with you…!! Hugs, Sunnie 🙂
