Here we go with the next 1/3rd of the rug! 🙂
Right now, I am busily working on the right side border of the rug…placing colours where I believe they will balance out the bright leaves on the left side.
This Halloween rug tells the story of “Witch Winnie” who, on the first day of October, always goes out searching for a new pumpkin to ride with her on Halloween night. She needs a jack-o-lantern to light her way through the dark night skies! 🙂
Unfortunately, this particular pumpkin has a fear of heights and is trying his best to “blend in” with the colourful leaves in the Autumn woods. He certainly does Not want to be flying through the night sky with anyone!!!
Witch Winnie is not sure about him either…so we’ll never know just what her choice will be. On the next 1/3rd of the rug, there is someone else trying to persuade her to overlook this particular large pumpkin! This next character wants the smallest pumpkin possible and would prefer it NOT be a jack-o-lantern!
Witch Winnie’s dress is done in duller colours as the main focus of her character is her face! The main focus of the pumpkin is also his face and the same goes for the next character in the final 1/3rd of the rug. The “band of focus” is a diagonal line of faces.
So here is Progress on Day 11…as I’ve said before, I was inspired by part of an antique book cover and an antique playing card image of the Queen of hearts for this piece. I also liked the curved parts of the trees and the curved part of Winnie’s dress.
Happy Hooking! Sunnie 🙂
Well…here we go again!!!!
I was happily working on designs for my next rug (and thinking about more 12 x 12 inch mats ) when the idea for this 24 x 24 inch piece just popped into my mind!!!!
I needed a dose of silliness and this will do it…!!! …lol…
It was actually sparked by a couple of dark blue hand-dyed wools and a couple of motifs that I thought would be fun to use! 🙂 The inspiration for this piece is an antique card, a part of a vintage book cover, my own drawings, some paper cutting and a desire to experiment once again with several colour ideas!!!!
I will be starting from left to right with several dark blue solids and plaids and working my way over the rug (and upward too) to the right side being a mix of hand-dyed blues and purples.
The design has a silly theme and I will be trying to see if I can use some “interesting” colours and not get the colour themes too confusing!!!! (for me AND for you!!!!!) 🙂
However, as my husband Joe used to say when I announced that we were having an “interesting” experiment for dinner….”Good luck to us both!!!” 🙂 🙂
Here is Progress on Day 1…Happy Hooking, and Happy Summer to everyone! Sunnie 🙂
Hooray…Autumn apartment sign is Finished..!!!! 🙂
The three together:
As I said, I had very different designs in mind for this piece…but I happened to walk by my “Denture Rug” (!!!) hanging on my Living room wall…and decided then and there that this would be a medieval sign! (You know how I love doing medieval designs! )
I wanted to do something “velvety” and more formal (just having come off of the wildly goofy Summer piece!!!) LOL So, of course, I HAD to do it…and then, after reading the following…I wanted you to know how I really look at home when I am doing my rug hooking! LOL
So…this is what I look like when “relaxing” at home…and getting ready to hook rugs, of course!!!! 🙂 You will note the “pumpkin hat” that can have the Jack-o-Lantern face put on for Halloween! Also, there are at least 12 plaids in this rug!
AUTUMN rug-Finished on Day 9…..Happy Hooking! Hope you enjoy this one! I had such fun!
Hooray!!! I will show the finished rug tomorrow-Saturday!!! This has been great fun…and different from the other two! LOL Hint…this apartment sign shows what I really look like at home (being a quiet, dignified and” formal” person!!!!) 🙂 Now I know that you will probably be astounded that I am not the giddy, fun loving beach bunny of the Summer sign…or the kinda sweet and goofy lady of the Spring sign (!!!) but I must be honest and show the real Me!!!
Today’s photo shows the finished right side of the sign…and tomorrow, the finished AUTUMN sign will be shown. 🙂
So here is Progress on Day 8…
Happy Hooking! 🙂This shows the pumpkin with felt “add-ons” that can be pinned or sewn in place for Halloween!!! But won’t be there for All of October!!! LOL
I loved doing this one because of the colours of Autumn…such fun!!!
Quick post today…I am getting close to the final area of the rug and still having fun!!!!! LOL
I do love the Autumn colours and the experimenting with the plaids and the wool that I haven’t ever used in my stash! 🙂
The blue sky on this post is a plaid too… Enjoy!
Here is Progress on Day 7…
Happy Hooking! 🙂
Six days and counting!!!!! What fun! 🙂 The more I work on this rug, the more I like it..!!! It is really enjoyable and quite different from the other two! LOL
I’ve said before that I love to be “surprised” with the rugs that I do! I have done a few commercial rugs in the past on here…the Bradley Primitive, Little Allerton, etc. but following a pattern is not my favourite way to hook! Now, of course, it is good discipline to do that…and I can do it if I choose to! But I really enjoy being able to change my mind and do something totally different than what I had planned at first…or change my mind in the middle of the rug and go a different direction!!! LOL This is what happened with my Autumn house sign! 🙂
My first thought and sketch was of my “alter ego” under a tree with lots of autumn leaves flying around. Maybe adding something for Halloween too…and a fun dress or other costume… (like a fairy godmother, etc) My second thought and sketch was of my” alter ego” in a pumpkin costume with my little knobbley legs in tights and funny, pointy elfin shoes and a hat with autumn leaves flying around! I looked at both the Spring and Summer signs and wanted to do something very different…but retain the fun and a bit of whimsy and silliness!!!!! LOL
However, before acting on either of these, I happened to pass by one of my rugs hanging on my apartment wall (I have 13 rugs on the walls and many more on the floor!!!) and the AUTUMN sign just popped into my mind! I went to my art/craft design books to get an idea for the costume and away I went…!!! 🙂 (I also decided on something to do with this one where I could add a bit of Halloween that could be taken off!)
I have made quite a bit of progress and hope to have this one finished in about the same amount of time as the first two!
So here we go with Progress on Day 6…
You can see more plaids in the browns used here!
Happy Hooking! Sunnie 🙂
Hooray!!! I feel like I am really going fast on this one!!! I’m giving you more pictures of different areas of the rug today…you can see the different plaids a bit better as I have lightened the photos just a bit. I Love plaids!!!! 🙂
I am really enjoying this one too…the colours remind me of the beautiful Vermont Autumns – my favourite Season in Vermont – and I always enjoy working with plaids. You never know, when using them for the first time, how they will look when hooked!!!! Also, the herringbones and other textured wools hook up nicely too. The purple I am using is an old skirt…(not a plaid) so I am using up some older wools I’ve had for ages!!!! LOL
Well, enough talk.. Here is Progress on Day 5:Happy Hooking…hope you enjoy the plaids!!!! Sunnie 🙂
