June 2017- 12 x 12 inch mat…”The Rooster and the Rose”-Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs-Day 1

Because these are small pieces, there is not much “mystery” about them!!!!!   I will be doing a larger rug later on…but Summertime is great for doing small pieces as there is so much to be done outside!   …lol…

I am finally getting out of the Garden and back into my hooking Room!!  🙂

I said several months ago that I was going to do a number of 12 x 12 inch pieces…moments and memories…and I did 3 of them.   Two mats and 1 pillow.

I am going to do several of this size in the next few months…and the first one is an experiment using a Pendleton plaid wool for the background. (I guess I am still in the garden…this wool hooks up looking like brown dirt…!!!)   I also decided to use a lot of leftover woolworms!

I cut paper out for patterns to trace onto the backing and also found inspiration for the rooster motif from some old fraktur and sampler images.   I first thought I’d use a light background with bright worms for both the rooster and the rose…but then decided to use a lot of leftovers of more unusual shades on that plaid background.   It’s fun sorting through my worms to find softer  colours and trying them out.

I am also doing a lot of “angles”…and not so many curves!!!!   And…all the new wools I cut are #5 strips.

So here is the piece so far…thank you for visiting me!

Happy Hooking!   Sunnie   🙂

Happy October!-New Rug Projects-Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs

Hooray!!!   I do love the cooler Autumn weather…and I love decorating for fall…!   My tree is glowing with colour just outside my front windows!

I have been taking a rest after my large rug project…just steaming the rug and getting it ready to finish the edges takes a Lot of time!   🙂

However…I am working on a Group of 4 Chairpads that are for Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer so that I can display them at the proper time on a little antique chair in my front room.   I had done a narrow wall hanging for one of my rooms in Vermont that had similar motifs, so I adapted them for the chairpads and can make patterns of them.

I have hooked the first three and have Summer yet to do.   Also, I am finishing them as I go along!!!!!   …lol…   (I have been doing so much “edge finishing” lately that I am about edged out…!!!)

Another project that I am going to start is doing some small rugs in a 12 x 12 inch format.   I enjoyed doing the 24 x 24 inch rugs that were a challenge on Rug Hooking Daily some years ago.   It helped me look at a design and concentrate on the important things…paring the design down to it’s essentials.   I’m going to try this on the 12 x 12 now.

So in a week or so, I’ll start my 12 x 12 project…but I want to finish my chairpads first.   I’ll post a picture of the Group when they are finished.

Hope everyone is safe and well…my heart goes out to everyone suffering the effects of the wind and water on the East coast.  And others who have lost loved ones.   We feel so helpless when these things happen!

I trust you are gathering lots of beautiful wool to hook in the upcoming months…   Happy Hooking!   Sunnie   🙂

New Mystery Rug-“Little TT”-Sunnie/Rug hooking/hooked rugs-Day 2

Well away we go on Day 2!!!   As I said in the “comments” section, hunting for light and bright, kinda “sweet” wools is a real hunt for me.   I have so many wools that are more earthy, primitive and deep colours.   But I am finding some nice colours and this small piece is fun and a little goofy!   (Why are you not surprised…!!!)

I am anxious to get more of the pattern finished as I want to see just how it looks in my wall spot.   I had thought to buy something to fit in that place but thought this would be more fun to do!

So here we go on Day 2…Happy Hooking!  Sunnie  🙂

New Mystery Rug-Little TT-Sunnie/Rug hooking Hooked rugs-Day 1

I just couldn’t wait to get hooking again (!!!) but I am trying to edge-finish several rugs that I did last year!   However, I have a place for a small piece for the wall in my new cottage home…so I sketched this out and will do it along with my boring edge-finishing!!!!!   …lol…

TFT1Have you ever seen anything so beautiful?????   🙂

I have so much wool that is prim, autumn or darker colours that finding small pieces for this hooking is rather difficult.   But I’ll use as many leftovers as I can…good for the “Great DE-Worming Group too!!!!!

Hope everyone is well and feeling great…and… getting back to hooking after the Holidays!   Here we go!!!!

Happy Hooking!  Sunnie  🙂

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! :)

Whew!!!!!   I am finally moved in, mostly organized and have spent these 3-4 months sewing curtains, arranging furniture,  decorating and settling into my new home!   I finally picked up my rug hook the other day and took out (and rehooked!!!) the little squares on my 3 apartment signs (where the “16” was) so that I could hang them in my new home.   It felt good to have a hook in my hand again!!!!!!   🙂

I hope all of you have been doing well…I have mostly been well but quite tired with all the packing, moving and unpacking!   After the New Year, I trust I’ll be back to my quiet life…having fun hooking mystery rugs and creating patterns!   I really miss it…and will be glad to get back to my Blog too…I’ve missed you all.

When I get my second computer set up (the one I use for photo editing) I’ll begin adding pictures again…my little cottage has been fun to decorate and I’ll show you what I’ve been doing while I’ve been away.

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season…however you celebrate (!!!) and I’ll see you in the New Year!   We’ll get back to hooking and having fun with wool!!!!

Happy Hooking!  Sunnie  🙂

Mystery Rug-“HHHD”-Sunnie/rug hooking/Halloween rugs-Day 1

Well, here we go on the first day of this Halloween rug!

The first photos are always thrilling aren’t they?   …lol…

I am actually using the “wrought iron and round jewels” border on both sides of this rug!   Am I becoming conventional?   Naaahhh…I don’t think so!   🙂

The outside frame (2 #8 strips) is a great dull red plaid…I’ve lightened the picture some so you can see the colours in it.   The red in the border is also a plaid and the outline around the black is a plaid also.    And then we have the hand-dyed wools used too!!!

We have to start somewhere…so here is Progress on Day 1…Happy Hooking!  Sunnie  🙂

Mystery “Trick or Treat-Halloween”-Sunnie/rug hooking-Day 13 FINISHED

Hooray…This rug is finished!  🙂

I’ve had such a great time…I do love designing and hooking Halloween rugs…mostly because I can use all the colours from primitive to garish brights and they all work in a silly, Halloween rug!!!   I use lots of leftover woolworms too!   …lol…

As you can see, I switched to a different plaid background where Cedric’s candlelight would make that area lighter.   It is a plaid called “Tobacco Row” and I ordered it from Rebecca at the Wool Studio.   The other wools I’ve used in this rug came from many of the same people in my “Painted Mermaid” post…

Sun and Wind Farm – The Wool Studio – Katie Knoelke –  Darlene(Olympic Wool Works)-Winterberry Cabin- Joan Wood- the old tattered flag- Heavens to Betsy- Lake country Woolens -Spirit Mountain Primitives- woolnwares, etc.   (some of these are on Etsy or Ebay) 🙂   I’ll check to see if I forgot anyone!!!!!

Here is the story again if you did not see my last post…

“Once upon a time, in a land far away (well, maybe not so far away!!!), two youngsters were growing up.   Cedric’s family was tall, rather thin and many of them had pale faces.   Percival’s family members could become very large (if they lived long enough!) and they were often quite colourful in appearance.

Although it was unlikely, these two became friends and “best buddies” as the years went by.   It was strange to see Percival grow so tall (and so wide!!) and Cedric to lose some height each year.   But that was to be expected…given their family characteristics.   🙂

Percival was rather shy and liked sitting in one place in the garden, soaking up the sun and thinking.   An ancestor of his was a great thinker…and she was known for discovering that wonderful mathematical number “pumpkin pi”…!!!   (we know this formula today…3.1416, or 3 cups pumpkin, 1tsp. cinnamon, 4 cups sugar, 1 tsp cloves, 6 oz evaporated milk, etc.)

On the other hand, Cedric was a real charmer, outgoing, very bright and with a light touch.    His ancestors happened to be in the room in 1966 when “The Doors” a 60’s rock band, introduced their song…”Light my Fire” to the world!   Ever since, when Cedric meets a new lady friend, he can’t help belting out “Come on baby, light my fire” to impress her!”

By now, you have realized that, of course, Percival is Percival Pumpkin and Cedric is Cedric Candlestick!   (and you will have figured out why Cedric’s height decreases and Percival grows taller and wider!!!)

Cedric has finally persuaded Percival to come with him Trick or Treating this year…so, when finished,  this rug is what you will see when you open the door to them!

I am working on the full-size paper pattern for this rug now….and I believe I can keep all of my full size patterns, no matter what the size (except the really large ones like the -” 2 Grumpy Lions” -and the -” Painted Mermaid”) at $14.00 + 2.54 shipping.  Will keep you posted….I want to get these patterns ready by the end of this month, if possible.

“TRICK or TREAT- HALLOWEEN” rug – finished!    Happy Hooking!
