June 2017- 12 x 12 inch mat…”The Rooster and the Rose”-Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs-Day 1

Because these are small pieces, there is not much “mystery” about them!!!!!   I will be doing a larger rug later on…but Summertime is great for doing small pieces as there is so much to be done outside!   …lol…

I am finally getting out of the Garden and back into my hooking Room!!  🙂

I said several months ago that I was going to do a number of 12 x 12 inch pieces…moments and memories…and I did 3 of them.   Two mats and 1 pillow.

I am going to do several of this size in the next few months…and the first one is an experiment using a Pendleton plaid wool for the background. (I guess I am still in the garden…this wool hooks up looking like brown dirt…!!!)   I also decided to use a lot of leftover woolworms!

I cut paper out for patterns to trace onto the backing and also found inspiration for the rooster motif from some old fraktur and sampler images.   I first thought I’d use a light background with bright worms for both the rooster and the rose…but then decided to use a lot of leftovers of more unusual shades on that plaid background.   It’s fun sorting through my worms to find softer  colours and trying them out.

I am also doing a lot of “angles”…and not so many curves!!!!   And…all the new wools I cut are #5 strips.

So here is the piece so far…thank you for visiting me!

Happy Hooking!   Sunnie   🙂

Moments & Memories-12 x 12 Nov/Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs-“HarvestTime”An Old Crow Farm memory!

I am having fun with this latest experiment…trying out different things with moments and memories!   🙂

This new piece is a memory of my Old Crow Farm business that I started many years ago.   I started doing more primitive, simple designs that were just for fun!   And I sold my work at the Vermont Hand Crafters Holiday Show, held in November at the Burlington, VT Sheraton.   I was a member of VHC for many years and always enjoyed the Holiday Show!   I had many friends both in the group and the customers who came for my Santas and rugs.

This is another 12 x 12 piece for my entry chair.   I made the first three chairpads that I have posted here for Autumn-October, Winter and Spring but now that it is November I thought I’d do a little piece for the Harvest season before putting the Snowman on the chair for Winter!   🙂

This is another piece where the design is quickly cut out of scrap paper, placed on the backing and then hand drawn around the shapes.   So easy!

This one is “HarvestTime”-an Old Crow Farm memory.   I have made it into a pillow with a scrappy finished edge.   Happy Hooking!   Sunnie   🙂

Moments & Memories-12 x 12 ” /Oct-Nov-Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs-“A Moment of Recognition- Finished

Hooray…I was so close to finishing this one that I waited to post until it was done!

The design of this one was created by cutting out random shapes from scrap paper and laying them out on the backing.   Also, I used up a lot of leftover woolworms on this one.   The background is all leftovers and most of the figure is leftovers too.   I only cut new wool for the hair and for some of the purple dress!!!

By the way, if you want me to design an outfit for You to wear to your next reunion…just let me know!!!!   As you can see, my fashion and jewelry sense is outstanding!!!!!!!!   …lol…

Hope you all had a Happy Halloween!   Happy Hooking!   Sunnie   🙂

This is “A Moment of Recognition- That moment when you FINALLY recognize someone at the High School Reunion!”

“Moments & Memories” series-12 x 12″-Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs-#1/Moment of Rest-FINISHED!

Hooray…I have finished my first 12 x 12 inch rug in this new series!      🙂

I am hooking these pieces mostly in #3, 4 and 5 cut strips unless I am using leftover woolworms!!!   Then I may hand cut some of the wider strips so they’ll fit in!

I’m having a great time and if you want to join our “Small Treasures” Group on Rug Hooking Daily…we are now up and running!!!   Happy Hooking!   Sunnie   🙂

It is called: “A Moment of Rest-Young Bird Resting”.

With this piece, I was experimenting with a reversal of the pictures and paintings we often see with very bright and colourful birds resting in green trees.   I hooked a softly coloured young bird resting in a tree of bright, folk art leaves!   This was great fun!!!!

Moments and Memories + Chairpads-Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs-2016 Oct

Here we go with more progress on the two 12 x 12 pieces I’m working on!

A Moment of Rest:

resting2and the next one…A Moment of Recognition   …This one is using up a lot of leftover woolworms as it is not as “formal” as my first one!   recog1

I thought a fun series for those who are also quilters would be doing a series of quilt blocks.   I’m sure people have done this already but it would be fun to see a group of these if you have done them!

I am already enjoying these “small treasures” as I get instant gratification!!!!!   Listening to audio books while the rain and gray is outside and I am cozy inside is a great pleasure!

Now I also have finished the Spring chairpad so here is a photo of the entry chair with Spring!springchair500

Happy Hooking!   Sunnie   🙂

New Projects Starting Today!-Chairpads, 12 x 12 inch series, More-/Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs

Hooray!   Finally getting back to hooking after my large rug (Enigma), House and Yard Work and hanging up more of my rugs in my home Gallery!

Rugs cover the walls in the hallway, the office room, my workroom, my 2 bathrooms and then only a few in my bedroom and the living-dining-kitchen.   Have now hung 35 rugs!   Whew!   It is great fun to see them…but I am keeping the living area and my bedroom a bit more “peaceful”.   Many of my rugs are fairly large and colourful…so the white, cream, yellow and pink theme in my cottage needs to at least be shown somewhere!!!!!

Here we go on the Chairpads…I finished the Oct-Halloween one on my  entry chair now: halloweenchair and the Winter one for the next Season:wintersnmn500and I’m finishing up Spring!   And when I say “finishing” I mean really doing the edge finishing too!!!!!    🙂

Also, I am starting my first and second 12 x 12  pieces in my series called “Moments and Memories”.   I hope to be able to mount them on a 12 x 12 stretched canvas and frame them with dark stained wood.   However, I may experiment on the finishing of these.   They will be serious, silly, sweet and all the emotions  “moments and memories” evoke.   The first one is “A Moment of Rest”- and the completion of the title will be shown at the finish.   Here is the start:

rest1This format really makes me focus closely on what moment or memory I want to convey…and to remove anything that is not needed.   We will see, in time, if I am successful…!   🙂

I am also starting the next one called “A Moment of Recognition”- so I can work on 2 or 3 of these at once.   Some of them will be especially good for using up leftover woolworms from other projects!!!

I’m excited about doing this because I can hook many things that I’ve wanted to do but really do not have the wall space (!!!!!) and I learned (doing the 24 x 24 pieces) how to strip down and simplify a design.   When I was selling my work (my business in Vermont) it was easier!   After all, I am now hooking these rugs as fun for myself and not what I believe will sell or am asked to do!

So off we go on another adventure…!!!!   Let me know if you are doing a 12 x 12 inch series too.   It would be fun to see how we all handle something this size.

Hope you all are well and enjoying October!   This year has gone by so fast…It was July and then it was October!   Yeeks!   I better get back to my hooking frame before Christmas is upon us and I have to change the Chairpad to the Silly Snowman!!!!!      Happy Hooking!   Sunnie   🙂
