2014-New Mystery rug/Sunnie/rug hooking/misc wools-Day 1

Happy Friday, Everyone!!!

I am starting a new rug today and although it won’t be a “mystery” like some of the others (where I just show little pieces of the rug), I will just show my progress and not the whole rug until the finish! 

I decided that I have so many leftover woolworms that it is time to use some of them up!!!   LOL   Otherwise, I will be fighting my way out of great stacks and piles of little wool strips!!!  🙂     So this rug will be using up as many of the leftovers as I can…and also, the linen is a piece that is leftover as well…and I either had to chop it up and do small things (I usually don’t do small things!!!   LOL) or adapt several of my designs from long ago to this piece.   So…away I go and, if you want to follow along, I’ll be happy to have your company.  🙂

I may not post every day as I am drawing out some ideas for a friend and may hook a rug for her…but I will post quite often!   I am happy to confine myself mostly to leftovers in this piece and will be happier when my little storage bins are not as full.   Happy Hooking!  Sunnie  🙂

 

2014 New Mystery Rug starting Soon!/Sunnie/rug hooking/folk art

I’ve been having a great time with the apartment signs…but since I haven’t decided on the Winter Season yet, I decided to do another rug that I’ve wanted to do…and it might be fun to just show progress as I go along.   It will take me a while to get the pattern drawn out and collect the wools, but in a week or so, I will start hooking.

I have a couple of other hooking projects to do in the weeks to come also, so I’ll post my progress…but it might not be every day!   LOL   🙂

I have also been looking through my books on stained glass and there are some beautiful designs there.   William Morris designs are also wonderful and there are so many ideas out there to translate into rugs!  🙂

I wanted to show again an earlier picture of my Spotted Pony rug.   Sometimes people ask how to use up woolworms leftover from other projects.   Of course, there are a lot of geometrics…filling in squares, rectangles, etc. with various strips or strips hooked in circles or lines …but a background can really show off a central figure (light on dark strips or dark on light strips).   I really cleaned out a lot of leftovers doing this “folk art” background.   It might give you an idea for a background too…I thought it gave an illusion of motion and energy!   Happy Hooking!  Sunnie  🙂

2014-New AUTUMN Mystery rug-FINISHED/Sunnie/rug hooking/24″-Day 9

Hooray…Autumn apartment sign is Finished..!!!!   🙂

As I said, I had very different designs in mind for this piece…but I happened to walk by my “Denture Rug” (!!!) hanging on my Living room wall…and decided then and there that this would be a medieval sign!   (You know how I love doing medieval designs! ) 

I wanted to do something “velvety” and more formal (just having come off of the wildly goofy Summer piece!!!)   LOL    So, of course, I HAD to do it…and then, after reading the following…I wanted you to know how I really look at home when I am doing my rug hooking!   LOL

So…this is what I look like when “relaxing” at home…and getting ready to hook rugs, of course!!!!  🙂  You will note the “pumpkin hat” that can have the Jack-o-Lantern face put on for Halloween!   Also, there are at least 12 plaids in this rug!

Hooray!!!   I will show the finished rug tomorrow-Saturday!!!   This has been great fun…and different from the other two!  LOL   Hint…this apartment sign shows what I really look like at home (being a quiet, dignified and” formal” person!!!!)   🙂    Now I know that you will probably be astounded that I am not the giddy, fun loving beach bunny of the Summer sign…or the kinda sweet and goofy lady of the Spring sign (!!!)   but I must be honest and show the real Me!!!

Today’s photo shows the finished right side of the sign…and tomorrow, the finished AUTUMN sign will be shown.  🙂

Happy Hooking!  🙂This shows the pumpkin with felt “add-ons” that can be pinned or sewn in place for Halloween!!!   But won’t be there for All of October!!!  LOL

I loved doing this one because of the colours of Autumn…such fun!!!
