I couldn’t believe that this blog program has “protected” me from over 18,000 Spam comments!!!! I still have a few “spams” that come through and most of them are simply disjointed comments that have nothing to do with rug hooking or crafts of any kind.
I still have trouble understanding why anyone would spend time sending comments that make no sense or advertising comments to people who have Blogs about their homes and gardens, their art or craft projects or their families. After all, they could be hooking or painting or embroidering or woodcarving…etc. with that time!!!!! 🙂
And now…On to “The Rooster and the Rose”….
As I’ve said, I am using this as an experiment with the background plaid and also with the limited colour choices. Rather soft, primitive colours and lots of leftovers!!! (that “S” kinda looks like a worm!) 🙂
So here is Day 2 Progress…that tan I am using for the rooster body is a plaid also, and a couple of the green strips are plaids. Cutting the paper leaves was fun and the “lollipop flowers” look a bit weird…and I like that. Happy Hooking! Sunnie 🙂
Hooray…I was able to finish up the lollipop tree in the middle of the rug, do a little more background and fill in a “small filler section” just above the crow on the left side of the rug! 🙂
I am adding touches of white and light and bright in the motifs to continue having them stand out against the dark background.
Now you might look carefully at the lollipop tree and say to yourself…why didn’t she hook the circles in the lighter section all the same? Some of the light colours used around the colourful centers just fade into the background…and some of them are whiter and stand out more! As you know, I am using up woolworms and being “free” with my choices…so I simply grabbed worms out of a “light colours” bag and used them! Again, this rug is an exercise in using what you have (!!!) and I doubt if the circles in the lighter section of that center tree will ruin the whole rug design because they are all not the same!!!!!
You have my permission to deduct points for “odd inconsistencies” (!!!) …lol… on my rug!!!
I’ll do more background today and then jump into designing the next animal…!!! As I said, I have “generic” animals sketched on my backing but am changing and redesigning as I go. That is what makes it fun for me!!!! (My fox looks better to me now that I have more animals done…they are all very simple designs with very little detail…!)
So here is Progress on Day 20…are we having fun yet????? …lol…
Happy Hooking! Sunnie 🙂
Just a quick note. for Saturday, May 19th. ..my husband is going through some health problems right now. He is recovering from brain surgery for tumor removal. We are taking one day at a time, and trying to live in the moment…but as you might imagine, it is a difficult time. May we all live each precious day fully as we never know what problems will come to us and change our lives. Thank you for your concern…I appreciate it so much. Sunnie
I am preparing my next 24 x 24 rug which will be a “Mystery Rug”!!! I actually have two patterns and am deciding which to put on my backing first…!!! I want to do them both! 🙂 LOL
So I will be starting to post on the new rug in the next few days..must gather wools and decide which pattern!! 🙂
I thought today …(while waiting for me to get my act together!!! )…you might like to see a smaller rug that I did when using what I call the “creative cutting” technique. This is where you simply take some white copy paper, cut out random shapes (maybe about 10 or so) and then try to arrange them on your rug backing to see if you can come up with a design!!!!! LOL It is simply a technique to jog your brain and I enjoy doing it once in awhile!
The “T-Time Lady” (!!) is one of those rugs and I had such fun doing it! Some of my cutout shapes reminded me of a face, one of the spout of a teapot, one the teapot lid, the feet, and so forth! Afrer doing the center teapot, I thought of using different fonts to make the “T” letters for a play on words!!!
Happy Hooking! Sunnie 😉
I’m happy with my progress. ..so far(!!!)..Hooray!!! 🙂
I was able to finish my cat on the upper center of the rug and I finished my Lollypop tree!!! 🙂 Because my rug is smaller than Magdalena’s rugs were, I can see that it would be more fun if the lollypop tree was larger so that the circles could be shown as real circles and not just “dots”..!!!!! LOL
But I wanted to do my 24 x 24…so Here is Progress on Day 11:
The cat is sideways on the top of the rug!!!!
I hope you can see all the different wools…so many of them are plaids, and I love working with plaids!
Happy Hooking! Sunnie 😉
Had a small amount of time yesterday but added my little gray rabbit to my menagerie!!!! (And, some background!!!!) 🙂
One of the nice things about rug hooking is that you can sit down for a few minutes or a half hour and pick right up where you left off without having to gather or set out a lot of supplies or fabrics!!! 🙂
As an old quilter (and I do mean old!!!!…LOL) I know that sitting down to the sewing machine to piece a new block or work on a quilt in progress entailed a lot of prep work!!! Also, if you make a mistake in rug hooking you can simply zip the wrong strip (s) out…no need for that seam ripper and a lot of time carefully picking out the threads. 🙂
Here is progress on Day 10… (first photo shown right side up…but it is upside down on the real rug!!!!) 😉
Hope you have a lovely day today!!! Happy Hooking! Sunnie 😉
I was able to finish my silly-looking rooster and do a bit of background! Also, started my Lollypop Tree….we’ll see how THAT goes as I hook more!!! 🙂 Had a great time hooking with the “Group” yesterday…!!! Always nice to hook with friends! 🙂
Here is progress on Day 7…
Hope all those in the danger zone of the Tornados will be safe…!
Hope you have an enjoyable day today…Happy Hooking! Sunnie 😉
Coming right along and redesigning as I go! 🙂
Because I am using narrower cuts than Magdalena Briner Eby did on her rugs, my first drawings had motifs pretty close together! As I go along and am now freely grabbing #8 cuts as well as the narrower cuts, I am having to move some of my motifs to give space around them. I am even sketching more freely as I am simply trying to draw primitive outlines of the animals and leaves, etc. and not worry about them!!! They are what they are!!! LOL I had quite a bit of time to hook yesterday and this morning…so pretty good progress!!! 🙂
Of course, this is not the size that many of the members of the Magdalena _Style group are hooking…mine is probably smaller at 24 x 24 inches!!!
Here is progress on Day 6…
Having lots of fun!!! LOL I’m off to hook today with the Saturday Group at Brenda’s Quilters Quisine shop! Hooray!
Happy Hooking! Sunnie 😉
