New Mystery Rug-“TMAMOM”-2017-Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs/folk art-Day 10

Well Mr. Morty and I are both laughing now as he was right with his jacket fabric choice!!!   🙂

When I finished the jacket using the 2 leftover pieces of mottled wool left over from Halloween rugs, the completed product certainly looks “different”!

We are both laughing because the mottled wool , when hooked, looks to us like someone knitted him this sweater-jacket…!   THAT really is “different” and Mr. Morty is very happy today!!!

Does it look like knitting to you?   I am not a knitter…but it reminds me of the bulky knit sweaters people used to knit…!   🙂

I‘m happy at the way the rug is going even though there are several sections that, by themselves, aren’t particularly interesting.   (Either to hook or to see!!!!!!)   …lol…

Here is Progress on Day 10…Happy Hooking, Everyone!   Have a wonderful day!    (Finally, we are getting some rain!!!!   Hooray!)  Sunnie   🙂

New Mystery Rug 2017-“A Strange Encounter On the Tulip Balcony”-Sunnie/rug hooking-Day 16 Finished!

I Finally had some time to hook on my rug and get it finished…!   🙂   Hooray!

“A Strange Encounter On the Tulip Balcony” has a lot of silliness in it (!!!!)…and there are 3 different stories that could be told with the design of this rug!   🙂

My story at first was a case of Misdirection where a young lady running for a Cab shouted out at her new admirer, “I’m on Village Street, just look for  the 3rd floor balcony with the tulips!”, as she rides away.    He is thinking, “I’ll climb up to her balcony and surprise her!”         —Also, at the same time, a very nice Bird lady calls out to two gentlemen birds as she flies by… “I’ll be roosting on the balcony with the Tulips!”   They are thinking, “We’ll fly up to that Balcony and surprise her!”

Unfortunately, both the young lady and the Bird lady forgot that in the Spring, EVERYONE on Village street puts out Tulips on their doorsteps and Every balcony is filled with Tulips and other flowers!   So unless visitors know to look for the painted metal tulips on One building…AND they know which third floor balcony is the one mentioned, they can get confused.

And, of course, the young man and the gentlemen birds were confused…!

The young man is climbing up to the wrong Balcony and the two dapper gentlemen “birds about town” (!!!) have mistakenly visited the wrong Balcony too!   🙂   By her posture and expression, the young lady is thinking “What on earth is going on here?”

One day, as I worked on this and was looking at it from a distance, I got to laughing because another story came to mind.   As we all know, the Stork brings babies (!!!!!!!) and these two birds could be storks, letting the young woman know that her soon-to-be-born baby will be a Boy (by the blue flowers!!!)

Unfortunately, they are visiting the wrong Balcony because this young lady is NOT expecting!   🙂    She might be thinking, “What kind of a joke is This?”

AND…my Third story would be that this Rug is a celebration of the song “Come Fly With Me” written for Frank Sinatra by composer, Jimmy Van Heusen, with lyrics by Sammy Cahn. (1957)   Check the lyrics and you’ll see it fits almost too well…!!!!!   …lol…

Here we go on Day 16, FINISHED!   Happy Hooking!  Sunnie   🙂

New Halloween Rug-2016-Sunnie/rug hooking/using leftovers/hooked rugs- Days 14-15

Hooray…I finished my rug today ( most of the hooking!) and didn’t post before because I was so close to the finish.     🙂

While looking through my wool, I found a great orange plaid that worked for a narrow border.

I told you I would show the little drawing that I made so many years ago to use as a divider design on my old website called “Grinning Cat Primitives”.   After I enlarged the small drawing I pinned it to the backing, added a banner idea and cut out paper as a guide to making the full figures!

I decided that the “Happy Halloween” lettering was to big and drew attention away from the figures.   While I was deciding what to do with the banner, I decided to hand draw the skinny lettering and make it a celebration of all of October with the three friends looking forward to Halloween!

Now you will note that the final rug is a bit different…the figures are adjusted to more easily use wool hooking, not just pen and ink.   Also, my wool choices dictated some of what I did to have the motifs show up against the three dull background wools.

I just transfer Some of the outlines of the motifs to the backing and fiddle with the designs as I go along.   That is the way I like to work…so I am often surprised with the finished work too!!!!!      🙂

I do have to finish putting in more confetti background in the right top and left bottom of the rug, but that will go pretty fast and I can zip in a Final picture later today or when I am posting the start of my next rug!!!

So here we go on Day 15…I have enjoyed having you along with me on this “using some leftovers” rug.

Happy Hooking!    Sunnie    🙂

Mystery Rug-HHHD-Sunnie/rug hooking/Halloween rugs-Day 9

Thankfully, I did get some hooking done on my bottom border but I’m not finished yet.   I have to laugh at those pumpkins!!!      And isn’t that a boot I see?

Here is Progress on Day 9…Happy Hooking!  Sunnie  🙂

March Mystery-AGRD-Sunnie/rug hooking/hooked rugs-Day 2

Zipping right along and having fun with the bright colours after hooking the Spring “Ladies” rug!!   🙂

Although the colours are bright and some of them were used in my “Halloween” rug…this rug has nothing to do with Halloween!   (or any holiday in particular!!!)   It’s a happy rug…and, of course, a little bit silly!!!      …lol…

So here is Progress on Day 2…I think this one will go pretty fast as the motifs are not tiny and detailed.   I think I will be able to use quite a few leftovers if I continue on with the pattern as drawn.   I’m changing a little here and there as I go…but not too much.

Happy Hooking!  Sunnie  🙂  (thank you for coming along with me on this AGRD hooking adventure!!!)
